"Bridal Makeup Trial Session: What Happens and Why You Should Never Skip It"
What actually is a trial session?
A trial session is a separate appointment — usually 2–3 hours — where you and your makeup artist create your bridal look from scratch, without the time pressure of the wedding day. The result is documented precisely: which products, which techniques, which colours.
Your wedding day should not be a test. It should be a run-through of something you have already perfected together.
---
Why the trial session is indispensable
1. You find out what actually works on your skin
Skin tones, skin types, and facial features are unique to you. What looks stunning on Pinterest or on a friend may not suit you — and that is completely normal. The trial session reveals this well in advance.
2. You avoid allergic reactions
Some people react to certain products — foundation, nail colour, false lash glue, fragrance in primer. Better to discover this 6 weeks before the wedding than on the morning of the day itself.
3. You test longevity
After the trial session, you should go home with the makeup on and see how it holds up through a full day. Photograph yourself in daylight, indoors, and in evening light. Send the photos to your makeup artist.
4. You build confidence
The wedding day can be nerve-wracking. Knowing exactly what you are going to look like — and knowing it is exactly what you wanted — is invaluable peace of mind.
---
When should you book your trial session?
Ideally: 6–8 weeks before the wedding.
The reason is simple: enough time to adjust if something is not quite right, but close enough that your skin is in "wedding mode" — especially if you are doing skin treatments beforehand.
Avoid having your trial session:
- The same week as the wedding (too little time for adjustments)
- Right after a harsh exfoliation or chemical peel
- If you have a rash, sunburn, or have recently had botox/filler (wait 2 weeks)
---
What should you bring to the trial session?
- Inspiration images — Pinterest boards, Instagram saves, screenshots. The more specific, the better.
- A photo of your dress (or bring it along if possible) — the colour and style of the dress guides much of the makeup choice
- Information about the venue — outdoor, church, castle? Lighting and setting affect everything
- A list of any allergies or skin reactions — inform your makeup artist in advance
- Clean, moisturised skin — don't arrive with a full face of everyday makeup — it unnecessarily lengthens the session

What happens step by step?
Step 1: Consultation (15–20 min)
We talk about you: your style, your dress, your vision. We look at inspiration images together and discuss what suits your face shape and skin tone.
Step 2: Skin prep (10–15 min)
We cleanse and prime your skin. This base is crucial for longevity.
Step 3: The look itself (60–90 min)
We build the makeup layer by layer — foundation, contouring, eyes, lips. We adjust as we go and you give ongoing feedback.
Step 4: Documentation
We photograph you from multiple angles — in daylight and indoor light. We note exactly which products and techniques were used.
Step 5: Your task
Go home. Live your life for 8–10 hours with the makeup on. Photograph and send feedback.

Common questions about the trial session
Does the trial session cost the same as the wedding day?
The trial session is a separate and equally important appointment — it is priced accordingly. Many packages include the trial session at a discounted total price.
Can I bring a friend or my mum?
Absolutely — but keep the group small (max 1–2 people). Too many opinions can make it harder to make decisions you are actually happy with.
What if I don't like the result?
That is exactly why we have the trial session. Give specific feedback — "more natural on the eyes", "lighter lip colour", "more glow" — and we adjust until it is right.
Should bridesmaids also have a trial session?
Not necessarily for bridesmaids, but it is recommended for the bride. If you have a large bridal party, it can help to do a short style consultation with them as a group.
